Understanding the link between your health and your nervous system.

Moms, have you ever felt like your brain and your body aren’t working together? Like one’s doing one thing when you want it doing another? Do you ever feel foggy in the brain, or you can’t communicate quite right? Maybe your arms just aren’t listening.
Do you have kids that you’ve experienced colic with? That somebody’s told you, “Oh, they’ll grow out of it.” Maybe they have troubles potty training at a proper age. Maybe they don’t crawl the way they’re supposed to crawl. Everybody tells you, “Oh, that’s fine, they’ll grow out of it,” but you know in your mom heart that something isn’t right.
What Is Subluxation?
Maybe that something is vertebral subluxation. Maybe that something is interference to how the brain and the body are communicating. It’s like having bad cell phone reception.
Our brain does remarkable things. God made it so our brain can handle everything our body knows and does, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He also made it so it has to send signals through our body to get our body to do what it needs to do, so we can function and thrive.
If that’s not happening, what could happen? If we’re not getting proper signals to our body, do you think it can break down? I do. We know that if the brain and the body can’t communicate clearly and effectively, something in the body will malfunction. It could be a big thing or a tiny thing we don’t recognize right away. Over time, the breakdown follows a snowball trajectory. Something that seems tiny at first ends up a big deal later on.
Think of It Like a Sports Car
We like to explain it this way. Imagine you went out and bought a really nice $100,000 sports car. You drive it off the lot and it’s perfect. The engine, the transmission, the sound system, the alignment. Everything.
Then you take a curve a little too sharp, or you turn a little too sharp, and you bump the curb. What happens? You knock the car out of alignment. But this $100,000 car should be able to handle it, right? It’s a little thing.
Does it actually? It’ll drive pretty well for a long time. But then you start noticing the shake of being out of alignment. If you ignore that, what happens? Eventually you’re in a whole world of hurt with major repairs, and your tires could fall off.
That’s the same thing that happens with our body. If we have subluxation interfering with how we function, things can snowball.
What Happens When Nerves Can’t Communicate
What are nerves? They control everything. And if they aren’t receiving things properly, let’s talk about what could happen.
If the nerves controlling the muscles to your head can’t function correctly, could it contribute to headaches? If the nerves that control your arms aren’t sending signals properly to and from the brain, could you end up with loss of grip strength, tingling, and numbness? If the nerves in the low back that are controlling the digestive system of a baby aren’t functioning properly, could it contribute to constipation? I believe it could.
We had a sweet baby come into our office whose parents had been told it was normal for their breastfed baby to go five days without a bowel movement. Their pediatrician said that was just how breastfed babies are. But mom’s intuition told her something wasn’t right. The baby was clearly uncomfortable, gassy, and in pain. (For reference, the healthiest pattern for a baby is actually a bowel movement after most feedings.) After working with us, that baby was up to daily bowel movements with far less pain and gas. Mom’s instinct was right all along.
These are the things we see in our office all the time. When we have misalignments in the spine causing this interference, Dr. Cat and I are really good at detecting and correcting these subluxations.
You Don’t Need an Injury to Need Care
If you notice something isn’t quite right, it doesn’t have to be an injury. It doesn’t have to be a herniated disc. It could be emotional regulation. It could be chronic fatigue. It could just be not wanting to do anything or play with your family the way you want to.
When you’re in alignment, when your nervous system can speak clearly, these things can improve.
